In-house Cooking: Nutritious Meals in Childcare Centres
04 September 2023
In-house cooking provides numerous benefits for children’s well-being and development. By preparing meals on-site, we can offer nutritious and balanced meals that meet the specific dietary needs of growing children. This approach ensures that children receive fresh, wholesome food, fostering their physical health and promoting healthy eating habits from an early age.
At the same time, it allows us to accommodate children with dietary restrictions or allergies more effectively. With control over the ingredients and preparation methods, our staff can avoid cross-contamination and ensure the safety of meals for all children. This level of customization promotes inclusivity and ensures that every child can enjoy meals without compromising their health.
Moreover, in-house cooking creates an opportunity for children to engage in sensory experiences and develop various skills. They can observe and participate in meal preparation, learning about different ingredients, cooking techniques, and kitchen safety. These experiences promote curiosity, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment.
In-house cooking also facilitates the cultivation of a positive eating environment. Children can witness the entire cooking process, from chopping vegetables to cooking the meals, which fosters an appreciation for food and where it comes from. Additionally, communal meal times allow children to socialize, practice table manners, and develop healthy eating habits through role modeling and peer interaction.
Overall, in-house cooking promotes healthier meal options, inclusivity, skill development, and a positive eating environment. It plays a crucial role in supporting children’s physical and emotional well-being and lays the foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.
At The Orange Tree, all our meals are prepared in-house by our very own cooks. Our weekly menu is planned carefully in accordance with children’s nutritional needs and reviewed regularly. We have also been awarded platinum accreditation under the Healthy Meals in Pre-Schools Programme (HMPP) by the Health Promotion Board.
